Tavsiye verirken konuşmanın tonunu duruma göre ayarlarız. Yakın birine kısa bir Imperativ söyleyebilir, daha nazik veya daha genel bir öneri için sollten kullanabiliriz. sonst ise öneri uygulanmazsa ortaya çıkacak sonucu gösterir.

Nazik ve doğrudan ton
Du solltest … / Sie sollten …sollten, zorunluluk bildiren müssen kadar sert değildir; öneri sunar. Resmî konuşmada Sie sollten … veya Ich würde Ihnen empfehlen, … daha nazik seçeneklerdir.

Common mistakes
Do not use the imperative when a softer recommendation is needed.
After sonst, keep main-clause word order.
Do not confuse müssen (necessity) with sollten (advice).
